The Department of Environmental Conservation begins holding hearings on the proposed regulations that would govern natural gas drilling this week. New Yorkers have watched closely as fracking has unfolded in Pennsylvania and some are wary that environmental abuses could happen here–while others are eager for the economic boom drilling could bring.

I attended the 1 o’clock meeting in Dansville & it was jammed – had to park about a ¼ of a mile away – not enough room for all that showed up – I did get a seat about 4:15 – Many more anti-frack speakers than pro – 44 to 18 by my count
Speakers included representatives from Sierra Club (Atlantic), Friends of the Earth, President of the Adirondack Club, Catholic Diocese of Rochester, a Jewish organization from Rochester, two geologists, a filmmaker (“All Fracked Up” on You tube) – All Anti-frack
Also more stats – 36 women spoke (mostly anti) & 26 men (15 anti / 11 pro)
